Mother of Pearl is an organic gemstone and is composed mainly of calcium carbonate. Pearls are created by living oysters in the depths of the sea; if a foreign body penetrates the oyster, an abundant secretion of a pearly substance will be produced, within which the unwelcome host will be enclosed, giving rise to the precious gem.

 

The versatility of the Mother of Pearl makes it a perfect match for any skin tone. To test whether a pearl is natural or not, simply run it gently over the edge of your teeth. A real pearl will feel rough, rough, while a fake pearl will have a softer feel.
